A Journey from Apprenticeship to Research in Sustainable Transport Policy

What are your daily tasks at work?
I examine how political and organizational frameworks can make freight transport more sustainable and how transport decisions are made in practice.

What do you like most about your job?
What I enjoy most is the combination of analytical work, strategic thinking, and practical application. It allows me to develop solutions that truly make a difference.

What kind of education or training is required for your job?
My career started with an apprenticeship in logistics. After completing a preparatory course for university admission, I earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in logistics at the University of Applied Sciences in Steyr. Today, I work there as a researcher while pursuing a PhD at the University of Antwerp.

You can start with an apprenticeship directly after compulsory schooling (for example as a freight forwarding clerk), continue with upper secondary vocational education leading to the Matura, or choose a degree programme with a focus on logistics.

At tertiary level, Universities of Applied Sciences such as the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna offer specialised logistics programmes – some of them taught in English.
